The Astro-Practice: 4 Things to Know

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The new year marks the time when we examine our goals, set new ones, and let go of the ones that no longer fit our values.

I LOVE New Year's intention setting (perhaps due to my Capricorn sun). One of my goals this year as a yogi-astrologer is to share one of my favorite yoga-astrology skills in a way that is simple and effective.

What if I told you that one of the most effective yoga-astrology tools can be learned in moments and applied to your everyday yoga practice?

This tool can help you access your sun energy and shine out in the world with more confidence, authenticity, and delight. This tool can help you connect to your body to bring your energy back to yourself during those times when you're depleted.

An Astro-Practice is AMAZING, but it can get COMPLICATED. That's why in this post, I'm going to share the only 4 things you need to know to start your very own Astro-Practice.

Sure, it can get as complex as you like, but you don't need to be an expert to get started.

4 Things to Know for your Astro-Practice:

1. Your Sun Sign (If you're already an astrology enthusiast, you can connect with your moon and ascendent as well)

I mentioned I'm a Capricorn sun sign. Did you know that your sun sign represents the way you shine brightest in the world?

If you're new to this, the sign will be enough. But perhaps you want to ask yourself some questions in your journal: how is your sign's energy showing up in your life? Do you feel your energy is either over abundant or somehow diminished? What might bring your energy into balance? What element is your sign? Is your sign cardinal, mutable, or fixed? How might the energy of the element/cardinality of your sign appear in your yoga practice and your life?

2. Your Sign's Body Association

The signs are associated with systems and parts of the body moving from the head (beginning with Aries) to the feet (Pisces). You'll want to know how your sign interacts with your body.

To help with this, I've created an Astro-Practice chart complete with all the information needed to quickly access your sign's energy through a single yoga pose. It's free when you sign up for my newsletter (or if you're already on the list, you've received it in your inbox with this post).

3. Yoga Poses Suited to Your Sign

It's helpful to have a list of poses that invigorate your sign's energy by directly accessing the area of the body associated with your sign.

If you're new to this, a short list (one or two poses) will be enough. For the more advanced, think about how your sign's body associations show up each pose in your practice.

4. Decide whether to Invigorate, Soothe, or Balance

Some yoga poses are more energizing and some are more relaxing. Decide whether your sign's energy needs vigor or rest, and choose a yoga pose that reflects this. If you decide that you're SO expressive with your sun sign energy that you need a break--try moving toward the opposite end of the zodiac (Hint: this is the calendar opposite sun sign).
